Hello!
It was an okay week. Ending a mission is hard but I’m
excited for these next weeks. Sister Dy and I had a good week! We biked to
phnom (our far area) literally every day this week except for Friday. And Friday
we biked all the way to Ming KumOn's (farther than our far area). Remember when
I was in SMC and was sore from biking? Yeah that’s a joke. But Sister Dy and I
have a lot of fun together. She is known for talking way fast so my sdab
banning (listening and understanding) has improved a ton being with her. She is
one of the cutest people ever. We laugh a lot and sing together and it is way
fun. She loves watching cartoons and probably can quote random Disney cartoon
movies better than any American haha. She loves the movie Big Hero 6 and there’s
a line in the movie where the main character needs to go back to a burning
building to save someone and he says, "I need to go back. Someone needs
help." Also this is based on Sister Dy's sdab banning. But anyways
whenever we are tired we tell each other, "We need to go, someone needs
help. Someone needs the gospel!!" It's cute and awesome.
The work has been
slow here and we have not seen that much progression but we're not getting down
anymore. This week I was a little down, just thinking a lot and ending missions is just hard but I’m excited to love and serve these next 3 weeks. At the end
of your mission, it’s really easy to think, "Did I do enough?" And I
think probably for every missionary we could have done more but God doesn't
want us to do it all. If missionaries did it all then the church would be long
gone by now. God just needs us to try our best and do what He asks. I'll use my
talents and what I know how to do to help God in His work and to bring souls to
the knowledge of their Redeemer.
I actually want to share an experience. At first I didn't
want to share it but now I feel like I should. Saturday night I was just
feeling down. I felt like I’ve stressed my mission away or I haven't done
enough. My good friend and recently returned missionary told me, "Ask God
how He feels about your service?" So I did. I knelt down and asked God,
with all of my heart. "Are you proud of me?" "How do you feel
about my service here in Cambodia?" And literally I kid you not. Before I
said, “Amen,” the phone rang. And I picked it up. It was Sister Winters. She
was my MTC companion. She is serving in Battambang now. And she told me,
"Sister Mortell, Ming Kian was baptized today. She was beautiful and she
thanked the sisters that taught her ever since the beginning. She loves you.
You have done a great work in Cambodia..." I was astonished and in awe of
God's mercy and tender kindness. So kneel down and ask God and tell Him
everything.
Have a great week. Spread some sunshine and anything else
that is good.
Love always,
Sister Mortell
Also Book of Mormon is still my favorite. You should read 1
Nephi 17 1-13. Packed full of lessons to apply to your life. Also just every
page it’s so good.
